Through immersive environments and performative self-imagery, this work explores the tension between vulnerability and control, opening up dialogue around consent, trauma, and the gaze. This series of imagery documents the ritual of showering—a quiet, repetitive act that became central to my healing after sexual trauma.
By sharing this intimate process, I reclaim the narrative, transforming the personal into the political. As both creator and subject, revealing my nudity becomes a deliberate, consensual act of agency—challenging how my body is perceived.
The life-sized scale grounds the work in intimate reality, reinforcing my physical presence and provoking a visceral encounter that complicates the viewer’s gaze. My body appears through awkward gestures and candid movements, intentionally resisting the passive, sexualised portrayals of women that dominate art history and visual culture.
In doing so, I assert myself as an active subject within the imagery—reclaiming authorship over how my body is seen and inviting viewers to reflect critically on their role as spectators.
